What is Architector?

Architector is a cloud-based or server-based tool to manage everything to do with the complex area of data lineage.  Data lineage can be defined as the journey data takes from where it is created through to where it is used in reports, models, decisions, etc. It is vital for organisations to understand the lineage of data, otherwise they cannot properly understand the data they use, and therefore cannot really rely on results based on data. Data lineage contributes to the definition and understanding of data quality, data ownership and governance, and to the operational questions of deciding what data to use in what circumstances.

Architector  is designed to make data lineage easy to develop, leveraging existing data assets, and allowing data teams to collaborate to fill the gaps in lineage metadata to produce a full, dynamic, and interactive picture of the end-to-end lineage of your data. Well-managed lineage information thereby becomes accessible and usable to business and technical people in your organisation.

Why Architector?

Automated Diagramming

Architector automatically generates compelling, interactive lineage and structure diagrams directly from data definitions and associated metadata. Data architects and managers no longer need to draw complex diagrams, releasing time for more important work! And because diagrams are generated from definitions, the two are always synchronised. See data tools.

Advanced Functionality

Architector not only produces accurate (and hence beautiful) lineage and concept diagrams. The tool also provides a very sophisticated semantic glossary; a set of managed catalogues (e.g. process, application, data-store, data, issues, business rules, data associations); a workflow engine, to track tasks associated with managing and governing data; and more. See data tools for more information.

Bring metadata to life!

Traditional metadata management tools generate huge mountains of metadata, which is unintelligible and virtually useless to all but the cleverest technician. Architector can leverage this metadata, and can be trained to understand inherent associations in the metadata to generate accurate and meaningful diagrams that can be used by business and technical people. See use cases for what you could be using your metadata for.

Designed by top experts

Architector’s founders have many years leading data management programmes, especially in the financial service industry, working in some of the world’s largest banks and insurance companies. Architector’s data tools are designed to reduce effort and increase efficiency for data management programmes and business-as-usual activity. Contact us for a live demo.

What Next?

Licences come with a set number of metadata Authors, workflow Contributors, and Readers. This is because your data team is likely to have a few people developing the lineage, a larger number reviewing and commenting on it, and a larger again number of lineage consumers. We have licence packages for small teams, medium teams, and large teams. Pricing is extremely competitive when compared with comparable tools, and our strategy pitched to grow our customer base carefully, whilst extending our capabilities out from lineage into other data management areas.
