Select Appropriate Data Source

Home > Use Cases > Select Data Source

In a complex data environment, the same data is likely to be copied into several, if not many, data-stores. If we are developing a new report, or sourcing data for a new model, how do we know which source to get data from?

Architector shows where the closest source of data is, and can also provide information about the scope of the data in particular data-stores, as well as the quality of data and the risks associated with the data in particular data-stores.

Architector makes all this information accessible to the development team who can now confidently select the appropriate source.

The development team should of course extend the data lineage to include any new uses of data, any new system or processes, and any new data created or derived. As a rule, any new development, including changes to existing systems or processes, should update the appropriate sections of the data lineage.
